RIWAKA NOTES.
Those whose ears are continually deafened by the noise of city life, and whose miuds are filled with the dust and worry of trifles, should visit our charming district at this time of the year, and yield themselves to the sweet influence of Nature. Tho delicate green that enlivens the hedgerows, the lovely tints of the blossoming fruit trees, the songs of the lark, the thrush, and the blackbird; the young lambs sporting in the fields; the pretty little daisies starring the meadows; the graceful willows by the riverside; the balmy air; and the .picturesque hills iu the background—all proclaim the awakening of spring. Two of the tennis clubs opened the season last Saturday. Delightful weather prevailed, and a most enjoyable time iwas spent. iAt the Willow Club gathering quite a number of children wore' present, and their quaint pretty frock? lent an additional charm to the animated scene. The cricket season opens next Saturday. The Star 'Club iwill play ihis season in a paddock kindly lent '>y Mr'Wm. Pattie. It is cad to thiu'v that whilst everything in Nature is overflowing with the joyousness of life, there is a good deal of sickness prevalent. Messrs C. Barnett and A. Askew, have recently had a trying time in this respect; but are now reported to| be improving. Much sympathy is expressed for them in their prolong-! ed illness. I The pupils of the local school will shortly give an entertainment in aid of the piano fund. An attractive programme is in course of preparation.
