NELSON FIRE BRIGADE.

ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual meeting of tjie Nelson Volunteer Fire Brigade was hold last evening. Captain Woodward presided, and all members at present in the district attended. Captain Woodward, in tjhe me/ting, referred" to the improved condition? under wTiich the Brigade was now working. He specially mentioned the increased water pressure now available, which enabled the Brigade to more effedfively cope with outbreaks of fire. During' the year, too, the Brigade had received increased support from the City Council, and this had enabled it to add to its plant and bring it up-to-date. The Brigade had already equipped the central- station aud the Trafalgar-street station with 2^in. gear complete, and in a very short time the Port and Railway fire stations would also be eqniped with the larger gear. It was the intention of the Brigade to gradually instal at each of ths six remaining side stations the larger gear, 1000 feet feet of the 2Jin. hose being now on the water. Amongst the improvements during the year was the installation by the City Council, of a powerful arc lamp at the central station. A much-needed trough, of concrete, had been erected for hose cleaning. Captain. Woodward acknowledged the assistance rendered by the City Council, and the City Bngineor (Mr W. A. Smith) and his staff. Officers were elected as follows :—Captain, Mr T. Woodward; lieutenant, Mr A. Dee; foreman fire company, Mr J. Whitinjr; foreman No. 1 hose company, Mr H. Stewart ; foreman No. 2 hose company, Mr W.. Bennett; secretary, Mr E.I Boyes; treasurer, Mr J. E. Hounsell; hon. surgeon, Dr Andrew. (All the officers were re-elected). A vote of thanks was passed to Dr and Mrs Andrew for the gift of a first-aid outfit. Dr Andrew was also thanked for giving a lecture on and practical demonstration of the- use of the -outfit.
