HOCKEY.
(By "Bully.") At Auckland lasb Monday Wellington defeated Auckland for the Shield by 3 goals to 2. The game was hotly contested, in the presence of about 4CCO spectators, including his Excellency the Governor. The Auckland team had to be altered at the last moment, which, it is said, appeared to spoil the combination. 'Ihe Wellington team, however, wove superior du the day's play, and, deserved their win. The Manawatu team have already asked for a date for a Shield match with Wellington. The Kin Ora team left ,fo r Marlborough yesterday. During their holiday a match will be played at Pieton and probably two at Blenheim. The ladies' rep. team arrived home last Saturday from the Napier tournament. All the members speak in Jiigh terms of praises at the hospitality showered on them by the good folk of Napier. The tournament is stated to have been carried out by the Hawkes Bay Association in a very creditable manner. The matches between Auckland and ; Nelson and Hawkes Bay A and Nelson drew tho biggest gates of the tournamont. On the concluding day of the tournament the members of tho Nelson team presented Mr 'T. L. Floyd, manager, i with a case of ebony-backed military ' hair brushes, .suitably inscribed, as a ! mark of appreciation of his management of the team. ■ Mr C. S.
