MONTHLY INSPECTION PARADE.

[ __ The monthly Volunteer inspection parade was held last evening, when the muster was much smaller than usual owing to the unfavourable weather, though the country corps mustered well. The battalion was inspected at the Drill Shed by Lieut.-Col. Harkness, and afterwards instructed by that officer in physical drill, (with and without arms) and Semaphore signalling. ' , ; At tho conclusion of the parade long service medals were presented by Lieut.Col. Harkness to the following :— Ser-geant-Major W. Wanstall, First Battalion Nelson Infantry; Private W. H. Emms,- Nelson Rifles ; Sergeant W. A. Mitchehe.r, Nelson Eifles. .The two former, received the Volunteer long and efficient service, medal/ and the latter, the New Zealand ; medal. ; Colonel.
