I The subject for debat: at the Nelson : Debating Society meeting last evening was' "That the time has arrived v-hi'ii women should sit in Parliament." Before the debate the Premier, Mr ; McKee Wright, ai/nonnced his formation of a strong Ministry, many of the portfolios b'iug new to colonial politics, and their announcement caused much . ai!'t«.3-*:ent. The members of the Mm'- ' iiitry w'rs Messrs Hampson, Stewart, . V Ttcs, Hickey, Richards, and Bisley. Mr Houlker was Leader of the Up- , p-».:tion, and- Messrs Duncan,- Field, Ifurst, Moffatt and Thompson also occupied ssals on the Opposition benches. Mr W. S. Hampson, as Minister ot the Exterior and Interior, opened the debate, and \w followed by the Premier and Ministers ; and Mr Houlker opposed, *being supported |bj^ Alessrs Duncan, Field Hurst, and' Williams. On a division the motion was lost by a substantial majority, and tbe Premier announced the resignation of the Ministry. Mr Hpjulker was called jpon to form a Ministry, and he announced the subject for the next debate as '.'that Pilfty government without an elective executive shojjJd be abolished." Mr Walter MofMt will Jead for the Government.
