A special report on the Richmond School was presented by the Inspector.' dealing with the complaints of the Com mittee. The report stated that 'though certain weaknesses existed in the organ ■ sation of the school, the general efficiency of the school was satisfactory, and the complaint of the Committee on the work of the school was not sustained.. — It was resolved to forward a copy of the report to the Committee. Th.-> Inspector reported on the question of the alteration of school hour; in the city schools. The hours at pre yeot arranged hy the Board for June July, and August are 9.30 to 12, and 1.30 to 4; with a short recess in tht morning and afternoons. Ordinarily, throughout the school year the hour.' have been 9 to 12 and 1.30 to 3.30, ant: in the Inspector's opinion it would 1» best to adhere to these throughout tin whole of the year. In regard to tin suggestion made by the Nelson School i Committee to the Board at its lasl meeting to further amend the hours l>\ opening school a 1.15 in the afternoon., and omitting the recess time, the Inspectors considered that it would be injudicious, especially in the side schools, to dispense with the recess, and that now, tor the one month of August, it is not worth while to make furthei changes that would involve an alteration of the school timetables, with possibly dislocation of the present school routine,. It ivjt resolved to send a copy of the ; report tv the Town Committee. It was stated that the- Education Acl was at present being infringed lny religious instruction being given in city schools between 9.30 and 10 a.m. There being nothing official before the Board iv regard to this matter no action was taken.
