MONTHLY MEETING.
The monthly meeting of tho Nelson Education Board was commenced yesterday. Proliant— Messrs A. T. Maginnity (Chairman), J. B. Shepherd, W. Lock, J. Munson, J. W. Fair, T. Baigent, W. N. Frauklyn J. D. Beuke, aria F. \V. Smith: It was resol/ed to acknowledge with thanks a book published by Miss J. M. Hornsby. The annual report of the Inspectors for 1908 was considered. The tender of Messrs Moore and piirty £26 10s, was accepted for fencing, efc, ut Waimangaroa. . No tenders were received for improvements to the teacher's residence at Reefton. For painting and repairs at Ferntown { four tenders were received, that of C. JlcDonagh, ai £22 10s, being acoepte.i Tile question of tenders for improvements to the Reefton Technical School was held over indefinitely. A sum of £12 was granted for fencing" at Wangapeka. The matter of repairs an-i conveniences at Motueka was referred to the Inspectors, with power to act. The Westport Committee was reqnest. Ed to forward a report and estimate of cost of fitting teacher's residence as technical class rooms. The architect's account in connection with the Westport Technical School was left in the hands of the Chairman with power to act. Unsolved that tenders he invited for infant room at Wakefield on the amended plans of Mr Griffin. Applications from committees wore dealt with :is' follows : — Orinoco, repairing fence, ?0s granted; Summerlea, re-ne-ved application foi gravelling, deferred for further ornskieruti"!) : Motuekn, alleged insanitary condition of old school,, referred to th*3 Board's architect for report ; Ncudorf, cleaving new ■=ite, appiicaiion to l»e renewed after deeds are executed; Cape Foulwind, repairs cottage, £n granted for necessary work at porch of shool, committee to bo requested to furnish estimate of cost of improvements to teacher's residence ; the committee were also autboris. td to procure a cooking stove, cost not to exceed £3 15s ; Clifton Terrace, tank, the committee to procure same at price stated; Wakefield, various, £5 13s 6d granted for repairs to chimney and painting, and for the erection of convenience" for boys; Collingwocd, fencing, etc., left to the Chairman, with ponjer to neE; Waingaro, levelling, £2 granted ; Wills' Road, wood shed, £5 granted ; Tapattera, shelter shed (renewed application}, £10 granted; Rin-aka, teacher's residence at Brooklyn, referred to the Department ; Rocky River, additional grant for tank ,etc., requests granted; Motueka compaining of lack of funds/ resolved that tho letter be received and acknowledged; Nelson, re payment of sanitary fees, request granted; Brightunt?r, new stove, ordir.ary amount grpntH. -" '■- • - Having dealt with the matter of travelling allowances, the' Board at 5 o'clock adjourned till this morning.
