ARRIVAL IN NELSON.
The late Mr G. W. W. Lightband was -born in Worcester, England, in 1834. With his family he came out to Nelson in the ship "Thomas Harrison" In f 842, tho year of the foundation of the Nelson settlement. The family com prised the deceased's father (the lat Mr G. W. Lightband). and mother, thr brothers Thomas, Martin, and Gtorge Lightband, and a sister (the late Mrs H. D. Jackson). The newcomers started their colonial life on what is known a? '"Wainui," where was erected in due course a tannery, in the working of which George Lightband asssited his father. The first trial the members of the- family were called upon to bear was the loss of the eldest son Thomas who, with other Nelsonians, in the 40's left the Port in the schooner Phoenix, for Wellington. The schooner foundered in Admiralty Bay, and all on board were drowned.
