A FERRY BOAT BURNT.
[United Pbjsss Association.] DUNEDIN, Thursday. The ferry boat Matariki, recently built at Auckland, was burnt along, side the Portobello wharf tcday. No particulars are to hand at present. Later. Everything on board the Matariki was all right when a man who slept on board turned in at 10 o 'clock. He was awakened three hours later, and found the boat on fire. Attempts wero J made to drag the blazing vessel into deep water and sink her; but tho water was too shallow, and she was burnt to the water's edge. The Matariki, which was a new boat, cost .€SOOO and was insured for £3000 in the New Zealand office, which is reinsured in two other offices.
