THE SECOND DAY.

The second day's racing in connection with tho Nelson Jockey Club's annual meeting was held at Richmond Park on Saturday. Tho weather was fine till late in the afternoon, and the attendance was considerably larger than on the opening da.v. Better fields generally faced the starter than on "he previous day, and there .were several exciting races. Tlie most important event on Saturday was the Richmond Park Handicap, and this was won by the favourite, Lawn Rose. It was almost dark whe.i the la?.t race was run, owing to the sky being overcast. The amount put through the tctalisator was £2617, against £2204 on 'the first da.v, the total for the meeting being £4851, or £907 less than for the 1908 meeting. Three bookmakers did business throughout the day. The day's racing passed off very successfully, there being no protests or trouble pf any kind to mar the pleasure of the day. The results were : 9. Also started— J. Cress' Thera (7st--131b5.). Curator was scratched. There was considerable delay at the start, and when the horses got away Lothair gained the advantage. Entering the Straight I Lothair, Glen Spring, and Thera were in the lead. Thera shot up to the leader, j but almost immediately fell back again.
