ABOLITION OF THE NEW PLYMOUTH SERVICE.
TO THE EDITon. Sir, —lt has been announced by the I Uniou Steam Ship Company that the Rotoiti is to be taken off the NelsonNew Plymouth run. Do you suppose that their intention is — i (1) To let the Takapuna (or other vessel) performing the' onee-a--wcek trip call at Nehon on her way from Wellington? ' (2) Or is 1)10 service Dunedin to New" Plymouth, cailing :tt Ncl-oii, to be maintained? If not, suoh I'anllities as havo been heretofore given, and any legitimate trade relations that havo really existed, are to bo rudely snapped; whilst, by transhipment at Wellington, other competing centres are to retain their sea sen-ice without change of freight. Possibly the, company will offer Nelson the solatium of carrying their Taranaki consignments, also via Wellington, at the old rates. > . Tho whole subject is deserving of tho consideration of the -Chamber of Commerce, and might bo placed on -.the agenda of the approaching conference flf tl!u Chambers of Commerce; for arbitrary changes affect not only one district, but the well-being of a wider area. I am. etc., VIGILANCE. , Nelson, 3/4/09. (
