DESTRUCTIVE FIRE ON THE WANGANUI RIVER. A TOURISTS' HOUSE BURNT DOWN. LOSS £6000 ABOVE INSURANCES. WANGANUI, Thursday. Pipiriki House, a well-known tourist hostelry, 'owned by Hatrick and Co., was burned down last night. Only scanty particulars are available so far. The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen, and it had a good hold before it was discovered, the building was of wood, and soon was iv flames. IToilunately it was an oli-uight for tourists, aud very few people were in the house. There will 'be no inconvenience to tourists, as arrangements have been mad,e for passengers from Taumaranui staying in the house-boat at Pipiriki. The destroyed bouse contained about 100 rooms, and was comparatively a new place. It will be icbuilt at once! There is an insurance of £4700 on the building, and £1300 on the contents, with £700 in the Law Union office, and the balance in the Royal Exchange ofliee, reinsured with the Squtli British, Victoria, v Sun, New Zealand, United, and Ocean offices. The loss is £6000 above insurance.
