RIFLE SHOOTING AT TRENTHAM.

TO-DAY'S MATCHES. [United Pbbss Association.] ~ WELLINGTON, Friday. Shooting commenced at 8 o'clock to-day under ideal conditions, and up to 10 o'clock the shooting itself was ilso ideal. THE NELSON MATCH. The first match started was the Nelson Match, 500 and 800 yards, 10 shots ; and at the first range so many possibles and all-buts were recorded that no notice was taken of 38's. There was a dead calm and a fine light. Possibles were recorded by J. Preston (Auckland), Marshall (Waikato), lloive, tyro (Auckland), Williams (Featherston), Forbes (Napu>r), Dnthie (Christchurcli), Ching (Nelson), Bigg (Cluistrhuroh), Dodds (Port Chalmers). Among the numerous all-bnts was -boys (of Newton), a tyro. The 800 yards stage of the Nelson Mateli started in a brisk light and a rear wind, which told upon the shooting. Boys, the Auckland tyro, so far tops the range score with an ail-but, and he is top scorer in the match with 93. Soper (Tua Marina) in runner-up with 96, having made 49 mi at 500 yards and 47 at 800 yards. Milroy (Neison) is 95 and Ching (Nelson) 94. At the 200 yards range the highest scores were obtained by Greenfield Ipunedin), Dick (ltivcrsdalc), and" bergt. James (Napier) each 49. Others setunnß were WilTsim (Pct'iiu'l, Madding (Paraparainn), liiiitun (Clirii-.Uhurcli), Loveday (Ohur;i), Jtilroy (Pcrmaneul), Gluchen (Uaul'ji'i), Whitiug (Paraparaniii). Quite a largo number of 47'& were registered. There was a light and favourable wind, choppy, and increasing slightly a? tho last squads fired. The Auckland and Nelson Matches arc being continued. Later. In the 800 yards range of the Aelson match Guy (Taranaki) and Willis (Invercargill) each scored possibles. Boys (Auckland tyro) is still leading. The final squad are now firing.
