Canterbury, and opportunity has been taken of the occasion to celebrate the progress of the district during ita first half -century. The Premier and- Lady Ward,- and' Miss Eileen^Ward :came to Tiraaru last evening to . participate In (he festivities. H.M.S. 'JPioneer . also arrived last evening. This afternoon will be spent in Caroline "Bay, and the day will be brought to a close with a fireworks display by the shipping in the harbour.
