A general meeting of the Waimea Amateur Swimming Club will be held in the Appleby schoolroom to-morrow evening, at 8 o'clock. An instruction parade of the Defence Rie Club will bo held to-morrow evening at the Drill Shed. Attendance of all active members is compulsory. A meeting of the lady members Sports Committee of the Nelson Provincial Scottish Society, will be held at tho Rechabite Hall to-night at 7.30. Two first offenders for drunkenness were dealt with by, Mr T. W. Bradshaw, J. P., this morning. One, who had been in custody for 48 hours, was convicted and discharged, anl the other, who was on bail, was fined ss. Conunittee meet at 7 o'clock. During the voyage of the barque Don from London, -on August 4th, when about 250 miles from the English coast, a carrier pigeon was seen to perch on the main yard. One of the crew went aloft and secured the wanderer, which was exhausted and hungry. On the right leg is a rubber band with the marks J C 161; and on the left leg an aluminium hand with the figures 1904, N7 3494. The bird throve well on ship'n biscuits, and was brought to Nelson. Present indications in tho Waimeas make it evident that harvesting operations will soon bo in full swing. -Most of the oats are already cut, and in some fnstanees have been stacked. The barley fields also show signs of ripening, and the crops throughout appear to promise a good average yield, although the diy weather and winds are causing som* anxiety. An outbreak of .fire in a washhonse attached to Mrs Oabiielson's house on Wakefield Quay led to the firebells being rung pn Saturday night. The Port hose reel was taken to the scene of the fire, and the Fire Brigade also turned out. The flames wero subdued before much damage was done. There had been a fire in the washhouse in the afternoon, but at 8 o'clock, when the occupants of the houses left home, everything was apparently safe. Ifc is announced that tickets for the complimentary social to Mr John Gra.ham M.P., at the. Drill. Hall on Saturday next may be obtained at Messrs Hounsell & Co.'s and Mr Bockmann's, Trafalgar-street, and at Messrs Healy and Son's, Bridge-street. The social committea will moot at the Rechabite HaU, Bridge-street, on Wednesday evening, at 8 o'clock. On Wednesday nest, at 12 noon, at his rooms, Mr W.
