"The sufeeestion that appointments should be made from Australian citizens involvs a far reaching change which ;, ,eould not be, entertained in any case unless applied to all Australian States ~ and' not one alone, ana until public OBinion demonstrated^ overwhelmingly *in its favour." The Secretary of State for the Colonies adds- "No donbt much is. to be said m favour of the Canadian system, under which the Central Government appoints Pro vmcial Governors. If the people of /Australia desired a similaT system the Imperial Government, m all pro habhty, would be disposed to advise -the King to meet their wishes."
