FIRES.
SERIOUS OUTBREAK AT SYDNEY. • SYDNEY, Tuesday. 1 A large fire started this evening, .and it is still burning, at the Elliott chemical bond, at Balmain. An explosion of chemicals blew the roof off j and the building was completely destroyed. The damage amounts to £5000. . [Received 8.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, Wednesday. The cause of Elliot's fire is a mystery. The place is fully insured. AUCKLAND, Tuesday. Mr Brown's boatbuilding works at Tekopuru have been destroyed by fire. The loss includes a new launch, and a laree stock of valuable tools. DARGAILLE, Wednes. There are no insurances at all on Brown and Sons' boat-building premises at Tekopuru, which were destroyed by fire yesterday morning. The I damage is estimated at £2500.
