ANNUAL ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN.

The annual statutory meeting of the Waimea County Council was held at uoon to-day, all the Councillors being present, and Crs. T. Hewetson and A. Drummond (new members), taking their seats for the first time. On the motion of Cr. Everett, seconded by Cr. Gill, Cr. Philip Best was re-elected Chairman unanimously, and with applause. The mover and seconder, and other members, expressed appreciation of Cr. Best's past services, and said he had been re-elected on his merits, not because any one member had a prescriptive right to the chair continuously. The following were appointed members representing the Council on the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board : — Crs. Geo. Macmahon, H. Everett, and E. S. Hoult (re-appointed), and Cr. Gill (new member). The dog tax for the county was continued at 2s 6d a dog, and the Council then adjourned.
