THE PROBABLE NEW MEMBER. I (From Our Special Correspondent.) i DUNEDIN. Wednes : Mr George Malcolm. Thomson, F.L.S., now in practice as an analyst and scientific specialist in Dunedin, was born in Calcutta in 1848. He was educated at the Edinburgh High School and University, and was for three years employed in .a merchant's office m London. Following the failure of the Agra Bank, Mr Thomson's family came to Nsw Zealand, arnvins in Southland in 150S, and here Mr Ttomton t.yo» engaged for three years in farming at Mabel Bush. In 1872 he joined the staff of the Dunedin High School, and for many years was master of both the girls' and bovs' educational institution. Mr Thomson'was tha inaugurator and one of the founders of the technical school in 1899, and for eleven years filled the position of hon. secretaiy ana* superintendent of the school, and he is at present Chairman of the Board ai mnnajrement. For many years he wag secretary and afterwards became Preon two occasions of the Council of the Otago Institute, and for a lon? period he was an active member of the Otago Acclimatisation Society. He founded and has been President for some--years of the Dunedin City Mission, he founded the Dunedin Choral Society, and he was formerly and is at present ite President. He founded and was an original player of the Dune, din Football Club, and he was captain of the club for a time and an Otago football representative. He was also the founder and for many years President of tbe Pirates' Football Club. Mr Thomson is ono of the original members of the Dunedin Conservation Society, and a member of the B Batt«ry, and for several years he was captain in the Volunteer Artillery. He if also a. member of the Advisory Committee of the Free Kindergarten Association.. Wednesday Oniv three seamen's votes we.", recorded at Dunedin North yesterday. The recount is not likely to be tinisued for a couple of days at the earliest. In the moanfirae the result is in :he balance. Later. Nino seamen's rifrhts were issued in Dunedin North. Of these six exercised and counted at the first ballot. Threo came in for yesterday's ballot.
