VIEWS OF, CLERICS (Received Nov. 24, 9 40 a m ) LONDON, Monday / The Bishop of Manchester insists that Nonconformists have gained eveiy principle which they contended for under the education compromise. He declared that there-has been no <?uih malversation of Church property since the Reformation,^ and that the Bill will cause bitter and piotracted war n vil lages, and probably some schools will not be transferred without physical force. He adds that the net result is the Anglican Church's profound Kunuu ation. The Rev. Dr Clifford (Baptist) says the BUI is a solid gain to the educational work of the nation. Archbishop Bourne (Roman Catholic) expresses the hopd the^nation may find the Bill a foundation for a peaceful setlement. The Bev. J.' C. L Lidgett, Presi dent of the Wesleyan Conference, de dares that so long as the right of as sistant teachers to give denominational instruction are safeguarded by ade- ~" quate regulations, the. settlement of the education question will not contain a breaoh of Nonconformist -principles. Sir J. H. Konnaway/* M.P , states - that 19 20ths of the Anglican laity will - strongly support the Archbishop ot Canterbury and Mr R~unciman, Presi dent of the Board of Education.
