NELSON EDUCATION BOARD
SECOND DAY. _ . * The Nelson Educatipn.Board's monthly meeting was continue'd at the Board Room to-day. Present: Messrs Maginnity (Chairman), F. W. Smith, Beuke, Franklyri, T. Baigent, Fair, jvlunson, Shepherd. Ths minutes were read and eonfirmed. The examination reports of the Nelson Schools and certain Waimea schools were laid before the Board by the Inspectors and received. The report o£ the Director of the Technical School (Mr A. A. Hintz) was read and adopted. The suggested curri culum and the arrangements made- regarding the summer school to be held at ~vy*stport next month were approved. At the request of the Inspectors the Board held over the report on the question of supplying free school books to the preparatory classes. A report was laid on the table showing the vacancies to be filled under the provisions of the new Education Act. Resolved thilt the vacancies be advertised.
A deputation of two Kiwi residents (Messrs Anglesea and Holmes) waited on tjje Board with reference to a matter of the control of an organ which the residents desired to be placed in the local school. It, was suggested to tha deputation that some amicable /arrangement should be arrived at with the School Committee.
The following appointments were made :— Miss F. S. Jordan, assistant, Neiulorf; Mr H. E. Stanton, headmaster, Waimangaroa; J. F. Jordan, solo tencher. East Takaka; Miss K. Z.^Condell, sole teaclier, Rocks River; Miss H. G. Eden was again recommended to the Charleston Committee for .appointment. The resignation of Mr F. Neaye, headmaster of the Westport District High School, was accepted, and Miss Robb was asked to reconsider her resignation oftheWhangarae tsachership-
The Board authorised an extra expenditure of £15 on account of thp Technical School contract at Westport. on the recommendation of the architect. Mr Smith handed in tlis following notice of motion : That the February metings of the Board be held at Reefton and Westport. Mr Lock's resolution regarding the abolition of Board meetings on the ! West Coast was not proceeded with, .if there had been no resolution on the Board's minutes regarding such meetings. The Board then adjourned.
