The death occurred this forenoon of Mrs Reeves, wife of Mr R, H. J. Reeves, M.L.C. Mrs Reeves had been in delicate health for the past three years, but it was only a few days ago that her illness became so acute as to cause grave concern. Mr Reeves is at present on the West Coast, but will return to Nelson to-morrow. Mrs Reeves, who had reached her 75th year, was born in Edinburgh, and her first experience of colonial life was in Australia. She subsequently came to New Zealand and spent a great many years on the West Coast. For the past 20 years she had been a resident of Nelson. Mrs Reeves leaves a -family (one of her sons being Mr S. J. Reeves, of Sydney), and seven daughters — Mrs R. Arnold (Korere), Mrs C. F. Muntz (Moutere), Mrs E. S. Cresswell (Nelson), Mrs R. H. Ellis (M«lbourne), Misses Charlotte, Bessie and Hannah Reeves. Political matter? are the chief theme of' to-day, and the contust for the seat in Parliament, 6o far as Nelson is concerned, promises to be keen and exciting, all three. -candidates assuring the electors that they will reach the top-notch of the poll. We can assure our readers that in the furniture trade Mr Lock, the Universal Provider, of Bridge-street, has long since reached that point, and, despite of all efforts of the Opposition, he still holds- the top-notch in the opinion of the buying public. He tells us that "no_ selling-off prices" or "great reductions" can ever be made under Lock's system of business ; but a comparison of the quality, workmanship, and value of his goods will at once show that the "regular prices" at Lock's are much below the "sale prices" of other firms. Space will not permit us to bring under notice and tell of tha variety, etc. , of hie en«rmoua atock.
