THE AMBITIONS OF MB MAJOR. > r „ „ HAWEBA, Wednesday. fC' ¥^ Ma J° r ' MP -' the Government candidate, spoke at Hawera last night, strongly supporting the Government, and declaring that the financial position of the Dominion was thoroughly sound. He replied at length to Mr i'earce, the Opposition candidate, and defended the dairy regulations. He asked the people to support him again, because— and he should say this openly —he might hold a portfolio. He would not think of Parliament if he was going to remain there in the position of private member for many years. He e £ p l? w £ *" the reason he wa * pit off the Committees of the House was because he had voted against the late Mi Seddon when on the Education Committee. Mr Allen had wanted a substantial amount taken for superan"uati°,n from the Consolidated Fund but Mr Seddon had objected to that because it would reduce the surplus.
