TROUBLE IN THE SOUTHERN COAL MINES.
DISSATISFACTION WITH THE AWARD. MEN PREPARING TO LEAVE. DUNEDIN, Wednesday. The decision of the Arbitration Court in respect of the coal mining disputo in Otago has far from satisfied many of the men in the Taratu mine. ■ Somo 30 men are employed in hewing coal, and of theso 26 havo notified , their intention of ceasing work be- . tween now and Saturday. About 60 [ men aro employed in the mine altogether, and if 20 bowers leave nc [ doubt tho others will bo affected. It t appoars that hitherto theso men have . nofc been working under an award .. ond the award given last week will j not become operative till Monday next, , Before tho disputes woto argued in , tho Arbitration Court tho miners' representatives on differont occasions stated that in event of the Court 's decision being what thoy considered uni satisfactory, tho ultimate resulf would be that tho workers would leave unsuitable work and seek better cir cumstances elsewhere. In the mean time tho company, so far as can be aa certaincd, intends to stand by th< ' tetms of the Court's award.
