THE NOTTINGHAM CONGRESS.
(Received Sept. 12, 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, Friday. At the Nottingham Labour Congress Messrs Wilson and Harvey opposed Mr Tillet's Conciliation Act motion that trade unions should never arbitrate ■unless they had a living wage standard. The Congress demanded drastic legislation on the question of the unemployed, and discussed the discharge of old workmen as the result of ihe Workmen's Compensation; Acts. It was resolved to pxo- ' mote legislation establishing compul- • '■'' eory State insurance Mr Shackleton, V.M.P., announced that Mr Gladstone, Home Secretary, in the autumn session ' purposed appointing a Royal Commission, to inquire into this subject. ;: UNEMPLOYED IN GLASGOW AND LIVERPOOL.
