DRAINAGE COMMITTEE.
The Council then sat as a Drainage [ Committee. Applications from P. A. Clifford and A. Fear for the position of engineer at the power house were read. — i It was resolved that all applicants be i informed that they must send in applications in accordance with an advertisement to be inserted in the papers. The letter from the Chief Health Officer dealing with the tests made of sewers and connections was again read. Cr. Pottit moved that the Health Department be asked to report on he portions of the work omitted from the report already sent in. Cr. Grace seconded. He submitted a piece of pipe that had been taken from a connection that was being shifted, and the work done was shown to be very satisfactory. The motion was carried. Mr W. Reading applied to be exempted from connecting with tho drainage system.— TUo Engineer reported that though Mr Beading's house was over 100 feet from tho sewer, the boundary of the property was within 100 feet, and Mr Reading would therefore have ito connect. — Resolved that Mr Reading be informed of the circumstances. Tho Town Clerk reported that a sum of £17,635 was still available for the drainage works. There would be an approximate debit balance of £1715. The Resident Engineer stated that the actual cost was working out very close to Mr Mestayer's amended estimate. The Council rose at 13.30 p.m.
