QUEENSLAND AND TORRES STRAITS. (Pbess Association. -CopxaiaßT.) s (Received Sept. 11, 9.40 a.m.) LONDON, Thursday. li. K "dston, Premier of Queensland, ; has sailed homewards. He has com- ' pleted arrangements with the British » India Steam Navigation Company for a steamer service in Torres Straits. ■ The Company receives a subsidy of £37,000 per annum, and provides a 35 days' servico between London and Thursday Island. The steamers will run monthly, commencing in October, and call at Cairns, Townsville, Port AJiwa, or any other port which offers 150 tons of cargo, returning via the , Cape. Uniform freight rates will be , charged from all Queensland ports. , The steamers engaged in the service .will be of 5500 tons register
