A PROHIBITED PERSON FINED.
At the Magistrate's Court this morning, William Welsh, was charged with being on licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition orMr Maginnitv. who appeared for the accused, admitted ' the offence; but explained that owing to the death 1 of his son, who had been staying at ' tho Ship Hotel, the accused camo into town, and with his wife stayed at the 5 Ship Hotel. Tho order had been isl sued at Christchurch, and the accused t did not think it applied to Nelson. In . the circumstances he asked the Magis- - trate to take a lenient view of the s case. t Sergeant Dougan said that the act cused had been to several hotels. 0 The Magistrate said that ho could 0 not seo the connection between tho family boreavement and the offence. B Every prohibited person must know by this time that it was not lawful to go into a hotel, and above all that j ho must not live at a hotel. Tho accused had stayed at the Ship Hotel several days. A fine of 40s was imposed, with costs 7s.
