A NELSON MUSICIAN IN AUSTRALIA.
MISS LOUISE CItOUCHER AT iIf.LBOUHNK. It is always pleasing to record the achievements -of Nelsonians when competing successfully against outsiders. Some little time ago we published a glowing account of Miss Louise Oroucher's first appearance in Melbourne as a violinist. Her success is still continuing, and Australian paper* bv the last mail give details of her recent performances. The Melbourne "Argus" of the 26th ult., in its report of the Royal Victorian Liedertafel conceit, savs : "Miss L. Croucher made her first appearance as a solo violinist at the j Town Hall with great success. Those i who had heard her play in private knew the excellence of her work, and her really remarkable perf ormance was no surprise to them. She has the three in- ' dispensable qualities of a violinist — I technique, tone, and temperament ; her vears of training have brought to perfection the physical instrument which her already artistically-equipped nature has to use; and her playing may be described in the terms of the wellknown definition of poetry, "the exquisite expression of an exquisite impression. ' Her selections have not often been heard here, and had at onco tho charm and the disadvantage of novelty." The Melbourne "Age" says: "Misa Croucher's technical equipment is of a high order ; her tone is full and round her intonation is usually quite beyond reproof, and she has a thorough 'grip' of tho music she plays Whon encored (a richly merited compli- I •"•"nO she gave ns Bach's great Air for ' '. f'"> O strip"." "Ppnc'i" sav*: "Mi's R. The i " Australasian" says: "Miss E. Louise i Croucher is an exceptionally talenW I voung executant.
