SUNDAY NIGHT CONCERTS

A KAIKORAI PROTEST. [Uhited Pbess Association.] DUNEDIN, Friday. The Kaikorsi Band is desirous of raising about £120 more to enable the members to proceed to the contest at Ballarat, and with the object of gettins the balance, made application to the City Council on Wednesday for permission to hold Bacied concerts on Sunday evenings. This permission was granted, but to-day a deputation of clergymen, representing the Council of the 'Churches, waited on the Mayor, strongly protesting against the decision, and asking the Mayor to veto it. Exception was also taken to the fact that bands were paid to play on Sunday afternoon to encourage th© tram traffic. t The Mayor refused to take action as asked by the deputation, but said ho would (five instructions that the concerts should not start till 8.25 p.m.
