SLO GROG PROSECUTIONS.

INVERCARGILL, Monday. Frank and Rose Poff, of the Carriers' Arms Hotel, pleaded guilty to sly grogisel<ing. Inspector Mitcnell ({sposed that a.~ most extensive' system of selling had been carried on by both defendants. The wife wa^as much concerned in it as the husba^a, aiid there- was not the slightest evidence of coercion. Both had been warned, but this had not had the slightest effect. The female defendant had openly stated that jn one day she sold four cases of whisky . and 20 gallons of ■ beer. The police, had evidence that 117 gallons of beer had been sold and 80 cases of whisky Bince April 18th, •and that probably only half or a quarter of that quantity' had been sold legally. Poff was fined £50, and judgment wa's reserved regarding the wife on a point raised as to marital coercion.
" NAPIER, Monday. At the Magistrate's , Court, Richard Crbteer, licensee of the : Kuriparrgo Accommodation' House 1 , was fined £40 and costs for sly grog selling.
