THE FREEZING WORKS SITE.
To the Editor. Sir, — There is a repir: tint tho directors are trying lo acquire hind for the freezing works <n ihe.ceufrj of Stoke. Should it bo cnrwct it would be a sorry day for SfDke, and would have the effect of driving residents — of -which there are a rapidly increasing number — away from one of the most beautiful and healthy , spots in the province, and would ] mean a loss of thousands of pounds i in the consequßnt lowering of land values. Those who have been ithe vicinity of a freezing works will know how intensely disagreeable are the smells which continually arise from them. I have visited several works, and it is noticeable that only those who are obliged to do so live anywhere near them. lam greatly in favour of having a freezing works, but there is plenty of land to be had, even in Stoke, whero the works would.! be very little annoyance to anyone. ( j Hoping the residents of Stoke will enter a strong protest against such a ! thing being carried out, and that those who have land for sale will be public' spirited enough to absolutely refuse to sell the land for such a purpose. ■ I am etc., * STOKE RESIDENT. - Stoke, 11/6/08.
