THE MAITAI CLUB
THE GREEN TO BE IMPROVED. A special meeting of the Maitai Club was held on Saturday evening to discuss Mr W. H. Collins report on the club's green. There was a large attendance of members, the President-, Mr J. M. CaJder, presiding. Full notes of the interview of Wednesday last between Mr Collins and several members of the club were presented to the meeting, together with Mr Collins report and estimate of cost of putting the green in order. Considerable discussion ensued as to tho financing of the. improvementscheme. To ascertain the probability of tho necessary money being forthcoming, those present were asked to hand in. slips bearing the number of £1 debentures they would be prepared to take up. On this being done, it was found that thj amount, promised in the room was so satisfactory that the club would be fully justified" in going on with Mr Collins scheme. It was then formally resolved ihat Mr Collins offer to re-make the green, at a cost of £161 17s, be accepted. The meeting was almost unanimously in favour of going on with the work. Mr Collins will remove 12 inches of soil from the green, put in three or tour Inches of day and replace eight or nine inches of soil. Work should bo commenced in about throe weeks' time, and Mr Collins estimated thait, it would take two months to complete the job, thoueh weather conditions may affect the length of time the work will take. The meeting was an enthusiastic one, there being an evident determination on the part of almost every member present to bear a share of the cost, of getting a really gocd green for next season.
