SPECIAL. MEETINGS.
Special meetings of the Nelson Land Board was held at Westport on March I 6th, and at Reefton on March 10th. The following members Were present : Messrs F. W. Flanagan, Commissioner of Crown Lands (in the chair), Owen Lynch, G. | Walker, S. Wratt, and A. Sinclair. I AT WESTPORT. The Under-Secretary of Lands advised the re-appointment of All" Owen Lynch as a member of the Board. Th» applications from Nelson and district were dealt with as follows : — For O.R.P. : Louis Fauchella and Francis Symea, 180a, blk. x, Takaka Surey Districts Resolved to inform applicants that the land included in their application is not open for selection, but will be opened in the course of a few days under renewable lease, the lands being within the national endowment area. _ Under M.D.L.O. Act : Richard Ellis, 50 acres, block xiii, Pakawau, postponed at last meeting for advertisement and report as to quantity and quality of milling timber oil land.— Refused, applicant ineligible, he already holding more than the maximum area allowed under the Mining Districts Land Occupation Act. For Occupation Licenses : John Bassett, part of Pakawau Sandhills on West Wanganui Inlet, about 4 acres, block v, Pakawau.— Granted, rental £2 per annum. John Salisbury, 1000 acres, blocks vi and virt, Tastnah.— Granted, rantal £4 fle'f annum. R. A. Oldham applied to lease sections in Manu Village, Tadmor, bounded by Weka road, adjoining his leasehold.— Application to lease declined, applicant to be offered a temporary occupation Itcense at .a rental of 30s per annum, and to be informed that he must advertise. Graham Shaw applied for issue of certificate of title for section 4, block v, Pakawau, 125 acres.— Approved, conditionally on a further £10 value of improvements being effected within six weeks. . , Rainbow reserve and adjoining Crown land. Tenders for lease re : eeived: W. Acton Adams, annual rental, £60; Leslie Robeftsori, annual rental £40. — Resolved that the tender of W. Acton Adams be accepted. Ee transfer O.R.P. section 5, block iii, WaDgapeka. — E. Lublow to Mrs Fail. Recommended by the Board at last meeting-. — The Board resolved that Mrs LuDlow shall return 1% years' rent, from which she was immune under the Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903. Re Frank Walker's application for 100 acres, block iv, Aorere, MDLO., granted last meeting subject to applicant signing declaration. — Letter from Mr G. H. Allan, stating that Mr Walker is unable to make the declaration, and desires to apply under any other tenure available. It was resolved that the applicant be informed that it is the intention of the Land Board to open at an early date an area of land under renewable lease in the vicinity of the land applied for. Applications for transfers were dealt with as follows: — S.G.R., section 1, block iv, Wangarnoa, 1038 acres, exeoutors of Karepa te Whetu ' to Arthur Rutland/ — Approved, subject to Mr Rutland being able to make tho declaration, required by an applicant for a small grazing run, and also to Ills undertaking to effect Ihe statutory improvements on the property at an early date. L.1.P., sections 8 and 9, block vii, Tadmor, 377 acres; section 910. block vii, Tadmor, 87 acres; section 11, block vii, section G, block viii, Tadmof, 215 acres, Alice E. Rollet to W. 11. J. Lines. — Approved. Cash, section 4, block v, Pakawau, 125 acres, Graham Shaw to Alf. James Shaw. — Approved. M.D.L.0., section 2, block i, Ngakawau, 20 acres, E. S. Woodford to Kate Guy. — Postponed for further inquiry. Report received f om Ranger Harris on sections 5 and 6, block xi, Takaka, 179a 3r 32p, released from reservation as State forest reserve ((Gazette 9.1.08), recommending that the sections be reserved for scenic purposes. — Resolved that sections 5 and 6, block xi, be set apart as a scenery reserve under section 235 of "Tho Land Act, 1892." Braeburn Settlement. — Resolved that the plans or the subdivisions of the Braeburn settlement as submitted by the Commissioner of Crown Lands be approved. The Commissioner reported to the Board that satisfactory arrangements had been made with Mr P. R. Rickctt3 relative to improvements on his lease in perpetuity lands. AT REEFTON. On Johann Diamond's application for renewable lease, section 14, block iv, Aorere, 39 acres, it was resolved that the land applied for not being open, the Board had no. power to grant the application, but the land is included in a proI'liimation to h>& opened shortly-. Applications for Occupation Licenses: E. G. Kerr, land situated at the headwaters of the Mokihimii, Matiri, and Newton rivers, estimated 3000 acres — Approved, annual rental £4 a 1000 acres. Thomas Bell (same land), declined, E. G. Kerr baing previous armlieant. Henry T. Harvey applied to lease lots 2 and 3 of section 1, block ii, Wakapuaka, 253 acres.— Refused, the land in question having been proclaimed a water coii'-srvation reserve. The application of John Oscar Lammas to transfer l.i.p. section 3, block x, Matiri, 770 acres, to John Bradcock, was approved conditionally. A letter was read from Mr R. McNee, applying got information respecting 2000 acres iiv the Glenroy block, formerly held by Messrs H. B. and P. E. B. Walker.— Resolved that the area recently held by the latter ba subdivided into four sections if practicable and disposed of under the conditions relating to the settlement of the Glenroy block. A report was read from the Crown Lands- Ranger re timber cutting (on National Park reservation. — Resolved that the contractor for O'Sullivan's bridge, and Paine ,the Government foreman of works, be informed that the offence must not be repeated, otherwise proceedings will ba taken under "The Land Act, 1892." A report was read from the Crown Lands Ranger relative to the depositing of sawdust in rivers and streams. The commissioner said that prosecutions mav follow in any case where they had proof that streams were fouled by sawdust. A telegram was read from tho UnderSerreUry of Lands intimating the approval of the Minister to the scheme of subdivision of the Braeburn estate. The rentals and scheme for road ing the estate, as submitted by ths Commissioner of Crown Lands were approved bv the Board. * j It was resolved that Mr F. C. Page be permitted to* select an allotment without competition in the Braeburn setilement, having been employed by the late owners, Messrs Page and Wilk'ie, on the Braeburn property for more than five years immediately preceding its acquisition. It was further resolved to forward this resolution for the approval of the Minister. A number of other matters were dealt with, and the Board rose.
