A CONSTABLE'S APPEAL.
[United Pbess Assocmtion.J WELLINGTON, Friday. The appeal |of Constable Turner against the decision* of the Magistrate who convicted and fined him for assaulting a man named Patterson was argued before Mr Justice Cooper today. The question turned on whether the constable had acted rightly in arresting Patterson, who had used unjustifiable language to the officer and who was duly convicted and fined for so doing.- The Jndge said the extreme course of arresting without warrant should be carefully scrutinised. In the present case it was quite clear that the constable ha dno justification for the arrest. The appeal was, therefore, ' dismissed, but without costs, as the re- ' spondept had brought all th_> tro_bl» on ' himself, i ' , _»
