LATE LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.
We learn from the Chief Postmaster, Mr Senn, that a Post Office will be opened shortly at x'ahuna, to be known for some occult reason as Tatahi. Mr George" M'Conchie has been appointed Postmaster. j For the information of those who ' do not-know the locality of Mr Branford's farm, where the V.M.C.A garden party is to be held on Saturday afternoon next, it may be stated that the grounds are on the Maitai river, about 20 to 25 minutes' walk from the centre of the town, and" before coming to the first cart bridge. A teacher is advertised for as required for the Aniseed Valley school near Hope, A meeting of butchers will be held in Mercer's Booms to-morrow evening. ' His many trlendo •.■ill deeply regret to learn of tho death of Mr Thomas Henry Lamb, the Postmaster at tho -Port, this morning. Mr Lamb had been ill less .than a week, having contracted Congestion of the liver at the end of last week. On Tuesday he had an apoplectic seizure, from which he never recovered. Dr. Wright was in Constant attendance yesterday and up to the time Mr Lamb passed away. The deceased was one of the best known bandsmen in the Dominion," having seryed for many years in the Wanganui Garrison Band, with which he took part in many contests. At the time of his death he was a prominent 'member of the Nelson Garrison Band, and also a member of the Harmonic Society's orchestra. He also belonged to the Masonic order. The late Mr Lamb was an enthusiastic Volunteer, and served for some time in the old Naval Brigade. He had been Postmaster at the Port for about two years. He joined the Postal Department in Nelson in December, 1885, and he was in official positions in the Department at various places in the Dominion, in. Eluding Wanganui. He was appoint ed to the Po tmastership of the Port on 31st Maroh, 1906. before i his death he had obtained leave from < Mr Senn, Chief Postmaster, to at- < tend the Band contest in New Ply- s month with other members of the < Nelson Garrson Band, and he was 1 practising assiduously in connection ' therewith when he wao taken ill. i ]
