RETRENCHMENT IN JAPAN

SLACKENING MILITARY EXPENDITURE. [United Press Association. — Con right.] LONDON, Tuesday. The "Telegraph's" Tokio correspondent states that the Cabinet has decided from the next fiscal year to postpone military undertakings to the extent of £2,000,000 annually for the next six years, and to curtail naval expenditure in 1908 by £500,000, and by £5,300,000 in six years. This is largelydue to Count Katouras' and the elder statesmen's influence.
