Hospital Trustees last night Dr Va-lintinc, Inspector-General of Hospitals, harl a strong passage, The Inspector-General asked a questioh wneiher the surgeon superintendine thd institution was using the hospital for private practice . The Chairman replied that an inquiry had been held, but the matron refused to give any evidence on the subject. Dr Valihtjrte stated that he had stroiig reason to believe that such was the case, and that the position did not reflect much in favour of the intelligence of the Trustees. The latter remark was strongly resented by. the Trustees as a body, and some heated speeches were made. In reply to-one speaker, Dr Valintine said that as he had other things to inquire into he would not Bit and listen to further recriminations. Trustees, then made a speech, regretting the sensational scene, and calling on the people to prepare for a. battle, which woulaV now be necessary, as they must fight for the existance 'of. the Hospital, which had been ably maintained by the Trustees for tile past 30 years. , On Mr Murdoch's motion, it was resolved that Dr Valintine's reference to the Trustees be viewed as a gross insult, and that it be reported to the Minister, of Health. Also that a public meeting be called for next Monday night to oppose any effort to close the Kumara Hospital, and. if necesssary to send a deputation to Wellington to interview the Premier and Mr Fowlds. A meeting of the Trustees also carried a vote of confidence in Dr Morkane, the Surgeon Superintendent.
