This «*&£,& prosecution under tive i'\>- [ lice Offences Act for cviieiVy 'ib an animal (a n)ar^)\ Mr Houlker, instructed by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, conducted the prosecution. Constable Cameron '(Richmond) and Thomas Goodman gave evidence to show that accused <frßvft hi>* horse in the early morning iryfi\ Mtoiitere to Richmond, and Mt tt in Goodman's yard all day without a. feed until tho aftei't.oOtt train at 5 o'clock, aiid wwl the horse was 5n very poor condition,, with open v sores and wounds, on its shoulder's aiid ribs Witnesses stated that it was one of the worst cases they had known for many year's. Mr Houlker pressed for a htavy penalty, as an example and lo prevent similar 'cases in the. future. The Magistrate pointed out that accused was liable to a fine of £20, and fined him £5, with costs £2 12s.
Several civil rases were either struck out or adjourned.
The Magistrate granted several renewals of old age pensions, and reserved other applications for further consideration.
