A business man prominently connect%p with the. coal industry in a letter to the press characterises the statements regarding the Coal Vend as' reckless and without foundation. He declares that for the last ten years the colliery proprietors have been practically giving their coal away at prices which in most cases involved loss, and so far from acting in any tyrannical way in raising prices, they are only taking a step | which is just to themselves and admits of trading operations showing moderate returns. The writer claims that the colliery proprietors have a perfect right to appoint - their own shipping agents to handle coal.
