THE OPENING OF PARLIAMENT.
WELLINGTON, Thursday. After the delivery of the Goveiiior's Speech the "Faithful Commons" . repaired to Uieir own . Chamber, where there were full galleries to witness the the ,'inaug'|'.'al proceedings . . there. Messrs Lang and Okey, who have hern elected since the close of last session, were duly sworn in, Messrs Massey and Hardy acting as sponsors. "Are there any petitions'" was asked, and the sight cf several members springing to their feet made onlookers realise that the business of Parliament was once more launched upon its way. Mr Synies, the member for Patea. was the first to catch the Speaker's eye, with a petition irefcrring to some local grievance of his constituents. Messrs Jennings, Lang, Hardy, and others followed in quick succession, and then came several notices of motions and bills. Notice of the "Legislative Counci Election Bill" by Sir Wm. Steward raised a general laugh, and further merriment was occasioned by such amendments as to the Noxious Weeds Ad Amendment Bill (Mr fi- .McKeiizie), the Quackery Prevention Bill (Mr Hornsbv), Mr Major's Lights on Vehicles Bill, and other portentious notifications. Members having at length exhausted their "little list," the Imprest Supply Bill was passed through all its stages, and the business of the sitting concluded with the passing of the various resolutions regarding the deceased legislators whose deaths have been recorded since Parliament last
