THE NATIONAL DAIRY WINTER SHOW.
[United Pbess Association.] PALMERSTON N., Saturday. The entries for the Manawatu A. and P. Association's National Dairy Winter Show, now closed, are extremely satisfactory, and representative of Taranaki, Hawke's Bay, Wairarapa, Horowhenua, and Manawatu. The' fruit and horticultural divisions have drawn 337. while the schools garden competition will be prominent. Seven schools will occupy 150 feet frontage, with a display of collections and in individual classes. Fat sheep and pigs have 108 en'.' ies. The entries in milk-testing number 17, mostly pupils in classes instituted by the Wanganui Education Board. The hunters' and pony competitions for the second day have drawn 27 entries. For the champion utility poultry breeds, restricted to seven breeds, there are 300 entries, representative of districts from Auckland to Marlborough and Nelson. The total entries in the dairy produce classes are 172. The feature of the machinery division is the great increase in the exhibits of moving dairy machines, including milking plants. The extent of this division is shown by the fact that there are 35 different merchant stands occupying a total frontage of 1000 feet! The Show opens on the 18th inst, when the conferences of the National Dairy Association and the New Zealand Factory Butter and Cheesemakers' Associations will also bs held. The Agricultural Department is making a special display, occupying some 600 square feet in one of the stalls.
