SATURDAY'S MATCHES. Oii Saturd.-iv afternoon Club competitions w?re played, but a large number of m»ml.srs f-ilh'wed a match between Messrs G. Wilder (an English visitor) and D. J-hnstcn, the Wanganui professional, who has been coaching in Nelson dining the last five weeks. Mr Wilder b.-longs to the hard hitting mod- »,„ s .hr;.l. his shots travelling low and at'a great 'pace, whilst the professional,, playing with a loose swing, made his ball rise higher in tbe air. For a considerable number of holes play was very even, but by the time the fifteenth was reached, Mr Wilder was dcrmy threo. Then the professional won th'e sixteenth and seventeenth, and it leoked as though the match would be halved, but Mr Wilder took the last hcb. and so finished two up The approximate scores were :— Mr Wilder, 89; Mr Johnston, 87. On Tlv.irsilav next ladies' foursomes will bs played for prizes given bv Messrs Jackson and Co. On Saturday the men's second monthly medal will be played.
