TREE DESTRUCTION.

- To the Editor. Sir —At the last City Council meeting it was decided to cut down a fine macrocarpa tree in tbe Botanical Gardens, if necessary, the matter being left with the Mayor. Now, Sir, I wiah to protest a?ainst the destruction ot this tree, as it is most unnecessary. The tree affords a splendid shelter in case of a shower of rain occurring during a sports meeting, and its shale is much appreciated in summer. Whether the Mayor personally or the Council is to blame I cannot say ; but the way the willows ou the Maitai and trees in our public reserves are being des. roved is shameful. I am, RATEpAYEP .
