The Attorney - General Bays that twelve months' experience of the Liquor Law has confirmed the views he held when imposing the conditions relative to sporting clubs. The effect had been to «ipe out a number of undesirable clubs. Fogwell has challenged Arnst toi row early in July for .8100 or £200 aside, and put up his deposit. AUCKLAND, Saturday. Dr J. Clonston died suddenly frcm heart disease at Waiuku this morning. DUNEDIN, Saturday. The Dunedin "Evening Star" reSorta that three or four months ago a otel at Waikaia was sold for .£I7OO, and the same has just been resold fcr £2400, an advance of £700. In a neighbouring district a hotel which was recently sold has been repurchased by its original owner at £600 over and above what ho sold it for. The Dunedin Coursing Club's April meeting finished to-day. Tho sport ended rather tamely, seeing that Mother Machree and Southern Cross divided the money in the Maiden Stakes, and Jack Traeey and Watchful did likewise as regards the Supplemental y Maiden Stakes. The Dunedin City Corporation ap* plied at the Magistrate's Court to have Mr Napier* stable in Hope street j pulled down, the application being mace on the grounds that the stable w*B insanitary, and tbe Health Officer hau certified that it was dangerous to the public health. Mr Widdowsvn, SM, gave judgment against the Corporation. He held he could not make the order, as the building was in fairly good order and condition, and it had not b«.en proved to be decayed or dilapidated. Mr Napier was allowed six guineas cost«. INVERCARGILL, Saturday. A writ has teeu served on the " Southland Times," at the instance of Nurse Hall, claiming two thousand pounds damages for alleged libel in connection with certain statements published regaiding Miss Howell's death. Messrs Hall, Stout, and Lillicarp, gjlicitors, have receivtd a cable staling that judgment has finally been given in favour of the late Mr Sutton's family against ihe late J. A. Dowie, to whom Frederick Sutton willed his estate, valued at thirteen thousand pounds, lhe costs are given against tha late Dowie's estate.
