TOWN SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING.

Tha final monthly meeting of the , Town Schools Committee prior to the annual election was held at the Education Board room last evening. Present—The Rev. J. P. Kempthorne (Chairman), Rev. J. H.- MacKenzie, Messrs Firth, Condell, Bisley, Craig, Lamb, Boyes. Mr Snodgrass was excused. The returns from the Boys' Central school showed 517 names on the roll, with an average attendance of 442.3, or 84.7 per cent. At the Girls' School there were 622 names on the roll, with an averages attendance of 495 or 80 per cent. It was resolved to close the schools for the autumn holidays for a week from Monday, May 6th. The report to be presented at the annual meeting of householders was read and approved. Accounts amounting to £4 10s 4d were passed for payment. Mr Boyes moved- that the Committee's appreciation of the services rendered to^the Committee by Mr Firth (who was not seeking re-election to the Committee) be recorded on the minutes. Mr Condell seconded, and the motion, which was also supported .by Mr Bisley and the Chairman, was carried unanimously. Mr Firth thanked his fellow-mem-bers for their expression of appreciation. The Committee rose at 9 p.m.
