RESOLUTIONS BY THE TOWN SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.
TOWN V. COUNTRY SPIRIT DEPRECATED.
"TRESPASSERS" AT TOITOI VALLEY .
At the monthly meeting of the T6wn Schools Committtee last evening, the following resolution was proposed by the Rev. J. H. MacKenzio :— •' That the Committee put on record its satisfaction that at last tenders have been called, by the Board, for the erection of a new school on the Shelbomnestreet site, and expresses the hope that the Board w ill press forward with the work so as to ha7e the buildings completed before the winter sots in. Tne Committee asks this the more in view of the fact that at present the teachers and pupils at Toitoi Valley fc'chool are trespassers, being assembled on land which does not belong to the Beard, and thus creating a situation in which it is very doubtful whether the Committee could | enforce the law for non-attendance. A copy of this resolution to be sent to the Board." Mr MacKenzie said the Board had not got along very fast, as negotiations were first commenced in 1899. As an attempt was being made to block further pro-gie-s (under Mr Franklyn's notice of rmtion), the Committee should express satisfaction at tenders being called for the new school, a"nd show that it was watching the progress of events. The spirit of country versus town was to him intolerable, and that waß a spirit that had had to be met all along. Mr Bisloy seconded, remarking that the resolution should have a good effect. The motion wa3 carried unanimously •
