SPORTS MEETING AT RICHMOND.
'J}he sixth aunual sports meeting of the Richmoud Athletic and Cycling Club .was held at Richmond Park yesterday. Frotn thepoints of view of atj endance and sport the meeting was highly 5 successful, though the strong sou iwester blowing made things a little unpleasant. The gale was a record one, over 2000 people being present, and the Club will therefore be iu a position to largely reduce the liability incurred in laying down the cycling track. The entries in the running and cycling events were good, and there were some exciting finishes, notably in the two and five mile cycle cash races. With the exception of a mishap to Rogers in the mile cycle, the day passed off without accidents. Rogers* pedal touched the track, with the result that he was thrown, and injrired his leg somewhat, the machine however, being badly broken. The motor car race, which had been looked forward to, failed to eventuate. Two entries were received, but one of these did not " toe-the mark," therefore the race was scratched, much* to the disappointment of the spectators. The decorated vehicles events were a feature of the day, and were decidedly popular. The judges of theses-Hies-ilawesH. Baigent aud A. El. Bisley — had a difficult task in awarding th» places, aud in two of the events it was resolved to add another prize owing to the keeu competition. The "Red Cross" team appeared to appeal to the public sympathy, tnd their securing the coveted first place on one occasion was a* popular win. To Mrs May much credit; is due for her valuable services in connection with the decorated events, and also with the Maypole Dance, which was successfully^ performed under her able supervision The various events were got off well to time, and the officials worked hard in their respective capacities, making the meeting the success it was. The Citizens' Band were present, and ren- " dered selections throughout the day, also playing in the Maypole Dance, and providing the music iu the musical chairs contest. The results of the races were as follows : — . " ; ! One Mile Cycle (amateur) — Ist heat : l T. Eves 65yds 1, M." Ilogeifr usyds 2, R. - ToniliDßon 175yds 3 ; time [2mioß 20secs. i 2:idhoat: W.
