(From Our Own Correspondents:) WAMTI. THE LITERARY SOCIETY. The members of the Wai-iti Literarj Society met at the Wai-iti Schoolroom I ist Monday evening ostensibly for the purpose of svinding up affairs iu connection with the past session, hut in reality to mark their appi-ec ation in a tangible way « f the valuable services roadered tJ the Society by the President (Mr Edridge) and the Secretary (Mr VV. Hoult). The President, on behalf of the members, presented Mr Honlt with a Swan fountain pen. with the initials engraved thereon, and remarked on tho emcient manner in which ho had carried out his duties in the interests of the Society. Mr Hoalfc, in reply, expressed hia snrprise and pleasure at the tnaik of appreciation. Ifc was no iv the President's turn to be surprised, when Dr Hamilton, on behalf of the members, convened to him the appreciation with which they received their President's valuable advice and conduct of the meetings throughout the 603siou, and humorously and appropriately presented Mr Edridge tvith a dou bio sovereign purse tvith. a suitable engraving thereon. Mr Edridge briefly and . feelingly replied. Tho rest of tho evening was most pleasantly spent in harmony, which all enjoyed. A suggestion that the members of the Society should organise a picnic some time during the summer by way of perpetuating the bond of unity now existing was warmly taken . up, so members aro no v looking forward to thie reunion. A vote of thanks was passed to the reporter for having kept tho doings of the Society so constantly beforo the public, and eo creating an interest in their work of mutual improvement. The whole proceedings were terminated by all joining in singing the "National Anthem" and " Auld Lang: Syne." | ■ I
