RICHMOND BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Richmonc Borough Council was held on Tuesday, a 7.30 p.m. Present— The Mayor (Mi Croncher) in the chair, Crs Molesworth Sheat, Coleman, Papps, Hunt, and Glas gow. The minutes were confirmed. Accounts wore passtl for payment a: folows .—General Account, .£36 9s lOd Water Supply Account, £U 17s 2d Cemetery Account, £2 8s 6d. The Waterworks Committee reportec having arranged with Mr E. Cross, th< terms upon which he was to have a sor vice for a water motor. A number o£ legal opinions given t>3 Mr T. F. Martin as counsel to the Muni cipal AssociatioD, on various subjects were received, and copies disti'ibuted tc Councilors. A list of the matters whicli have been submitted to the Legislative Committee of the Municipal Association for consideration at its present conference was also received. A gazette notice re Arbor Day was received from the Colonial Secretary, and it was resolved that the corners of the Recreation Ground be planted with suitable trees, and that a Committee be set uj to carry out the same, such Committee tc consist of Cra Molesworth, Glasgow, and Colempn. Several new water services were assessed for rating. Resolved that a Committee be set up to consist of the Mayor, and Crs Glasgow, and Moles wort a, to negotiate for the renewal of the Waterworks Loan No. 1, of ,£25(X> which is shortly ropayable. The Committee to report to next meeting. Resolved, that the Council make renewed application to the Government for better railway and postal accommodation at Richmond. The Clerk was instructed to write to the Railway Department reminding them of the promise made some tima ago to rebuild the culvert on the Beach road in concrete, the present structure being considered unsafe. Resolved, that a petition to the Government be drawn up for signature, requesting the establishment of a Courthouse in Richmond. The question of street-lighting was further discussed, and the Mayor was repuested to make injuiries as to the possibilities of a gas plant, or other means of lighting, and report to a future meeting. The Mayor was also requested to communicate with the President of the Inland Communication Leaj^uo with a view to holding a public meting in Richmond.
